"Almost 25 years ago, Joan Guinjoan's Fanfàrria inaugurated L'Auditori. In commemoration of this anniversary, conductor Ludovic Morlot has chosen it to open this season, which revolves around the motto "power or revolt".
Thus, we will hear Un cant a Pau Casals, the tribute of the recently deceased Jordi Cervelló to the maestro. Also Ludwig van Beethoven's Third Symphony, which literally tore off the dedication to Napoleon Bonaparte: the "Heroic" symphony stopped praising the individual who had become a tyrant and, far from the conventions of the time, became a real musical revolt.
Prokofiev, for his part, left his country to escape the conflicts and revolutions, although nostalgia made him return.
Back in Russia, he was dazzled by the young cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, for whom he wrote numerous pieces, including the Sinfonia concertante, performed by the cellist Alisa Weilerstein." (Program Notes)
